This is an annual event with teams invited from across Yorkshire.

Leeds Pétanque Club win the inaugural CNG Triples.

The first inter-club Pétanque tournament at the Pierhead, Harrogate on Saturday 2nd May saw a win for the trio from Leeds Pétanque Club of Neil Rank, Paul Matthews and Gavin Marriot, with a 13-5 victory in the Final over Saddle Pétanque Club from Fulford, York. The winners received the CNG Trophy, with medals and prizes presented to the finalists by the sponsor's Operations Director, Chris England. 12 teams from across Yorkshire competed in the competition, with the top four progressing to the knockout stage.

A Harrogate Montpellier Pétanque Club team, pooled from Nigel Clay, Rupert Madeley, Sue Couture and Charles Stewart, won all three league matches before losing their semi-final to the eventual winners, Leeds. Harrogate's other team of Graham Richards, Sandy Wallace, Kevin Neill and Geoff Harrop narrowly missed out on qualifying for the semis on points difference, and finished 5th overall.

HMPC Chairman, Nigel Clay said, "As a first competitive outing, I was delighted with the Club's performances and the confidence this has built in going shot for shot with some of the best Pétanque players in the County. We've had very positive feedback for the staging on the event and already have invitations to play at Huddersfield, Leeds and North Stainley later this summer. The Harrogate Invitational Triples will now be a regular event in the calendar, only we'd like to think that next year it will feel a bit more like Spring!
